Ringwood Education Foundation provides scholarships to seniors through the Ringwood Education Foundation Scholarship Endowment and through four named legacy scholarships. Donors may contribute to any of these funds to support students pursuing further education and training.
Danny L. Smith Memorial Scholarship

Danny attended Cimarron Valley Grade School and graduated from Ringwood High School in 1964. He graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State University with a degree in mathematics and accounting in 1969. He was born in Enid, Oklahoma, on August 11, 1946, and died at St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas on May 22, 2007. His parents are the late Everett Leroy Smith and Vera Thompson (Smith)(Cross) McNickle. Danny was married to Margaret Ann Doll Smith. He began his career in Ponca City with Conoco, Inc. and retired as a tax consultant in Houston, Texas on January 1, 1997. He and Margaret returned to Ponca City. They had two children, Troy Everett Smith, Tulsa, and LaDonna Rennae Dennis of Enid. Danny was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ponca City, serving as a deacon, elder, and church treasurer. He shared his Christian spirit in countless ways, with his friends, his church, and his community. His many activities included volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, gardening, golfing, fishing, and woodworking. When others needed help, he didn’t wait to be asked.

Margaret Ann (Doll) Smith Memorial Scholarship

Troy Smith and wife Barbara of Tulsa and LaDonna Smith Dennis of Enid, the children of Danny L. and Margaret Ann (Doll) Smith, endowed a scholarship fund in memory of Margaret when she passed away in Tulsa in June 2018. The endowment has been added to the scholarship fund that Margaret established to honor her husband, Danny, when he passed away in May 2007. Margaret graduated from Ringwood High School in 1965. She played basketball, was a member of the Future Homemakers of America, was Future Farmers of America queen, and participated in other organizations. She and Danny were high school sweethearts. They made Ponca City their home for many years. Margaret dedicated much of her time and energy to the First Presbyterian Church, Ponca City. She served as a president of Meals on Wheels, was active in PTA and band parents’ organizations. She sang in the church choir and played bridge. She enjoyed traveling the world and valued education. This scholarship to honor Margaret has been added to the scholarship honoring her husband to become the Danny L. and Margaret Ann (Doll) Smith Memorial Scholarship.

Dr. Kenton and Mrs. Eula Mae (Oakley) Ross Scholarship

Eula Mae (Oakley) Ross earned a bachelor’s degree from Phillips University, Enid, Oklahoma, and her master’s degree from Arizona State University. She taught elementary one year and high school business classes for two years at Ringwood, 1949-1952, until her marriage to Kenton. She taught adult night business classes at Central High School in Tulsa while Kenton taught business classes at Central. The Rosses have three children and four grandchildren.
Kenton and Eula Mae (Oakley) Ross graduated from Ringwood High School in 1948 and 1947 respectively. Kenton attended Oklahoma State University (OSU) where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He earned his doctoral degree from the University of California Los Angeles while Eula Mae worked at a publishing company. Kenton became a professor at Arizona State University-Tempe while Eula Mae taught second grade in Scottsdale. In 1962 they returned to OSU where Kenton was a professor for thirteen years. Kenton served in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. He retired as a Colonel from the Army Reserves. Dr. Ross coauthored Century 21 Accounting, a textbook published by South-Western Publishing Company. Dr. Ross has been involved in continuous revisions of the text for the last thirty years it has been used in classrooms across the country; it is still in use. In 1975 Kenton became head of the Accounting Department at University of North Florida in Jacksonville for three years, while Eula Mae taught fourth grade. Kenton became Dean of the College of Business at Texas A & M University-Commerce for six years and remained there as a professor of accounting until he retired in 1995.
